My brother and sister-in-law flew me into Washington to care for their four children while they went on a Business/Pleasure Trip. It's been interesting. The children range in ages from 5 to 14.
Now, for those of you who are reading who do not know me well, I do not have any children and live a few states away. This has been an eye opener for me once again.
The routine is to wake up with the youngest, who wakes up first. The earliest he has gotten me up was a few minutes after five, the latest was a few minutes before six. I love my sleep, but there is something about a cuddly child first thing in the morning that does not make it too bad. I turn on Veggie Tales or Baby Einstein and we watch that for a little bit.
Next, the oldest wakes up and gets himself ready, then the second to youngest wakes up and comes out to join us for some video time. After a little while, I get the second oldest up and I think she appreciates her sleep as much as I do.
They are really wonderful. They make their own breakfast, except the youngest, and get themselves ready to go. I let them each know I love them as they leave and with the youngest I wave to him as he leaves on his bus.
It's been a lot of fun for me. The nieces and nephews fill the void of not having children that I would love to have.
My brother and sister-in-law fly in late tonight! It will be great to have them here with their children and, as much as I have loved being here, I cannot wait to get home and cuddle with my nieces and nephews there.
Four days... four children... no worries!
