Memories: 30 Day Challenge - Day 14

My older sister, my twin sister and I, and my brother before we got too big to sit on hoods...
My Earliest Memory

My earliest memory evolves around a trip with my dad, my sisters, and an old Impala.

I have been told I was two years old and we were headed from Texas to California to visit with my Grandfather.  I am sure we stopped in Lake Havasu, Arizona to visit with my Grandmother or at least as sure as a 34 year old memory can be.

The reason this sticks out is because it has been the only time my Dad only took my sisters and I on a vacation.  He was a brave soul because my sisters and I were 2, 2, and 3.

He bought us each a pair of sunglasses, some coloring books, some crayons, and were were sprawled all over the car.  This was before carseats and seatbelts were worn all the time and decades before the laws were made.  All four of us fit in the front seat of that Impala.  If one of us got tired, we would climb into the back seat and sleep.  Fortunately, Dad never got tired...

One hotel I remember quite fondly.  I asked Dad about this memory several years ago and he said it actually happened.  We all went into a hotel room where my sisters and I slept on one bed and he slept in another.  The bed had a pay machine that you could put money it and it would vibrate.  He says all it took was putting money in 2 times and we were out cold.

We went to the ocean in San Diego before heading home.  I don't remember much about the ocean except that I was rolling in water.  Dad says that my older sister and I were playing in the breaking waves when one swept us into the ocean.  He says it was not too far, but I remember thinking it was a long time.

I have been told that my Mom and older brother joined us on this vacation, but I don't remember anything about them.  I actually don't remember too much from my childhood except scary experiences, meeting people, and that sort of thing.

What is one of your favorite memories from childhood?  How far back can you remember?
