The flight into New York on August 11th was fast and fun! The 3 children, aged 3, 7, and 8, loved the flight, the on-flight entertainment, and the fact they could drink soda on the plane.
The drive back to Utah was not fast and the children were not as happy as they were when flying. We flew to New York to visit the family and to pick up the van because my sister's family is increasing by one in October to a family of 6. Her car only fits 5.
We left on August 20th. The first night hotel stay was miserable. We checked into the hotel at 12:15am, got to our room, and found out that the air conditioner was not working. They only had a smoking room left and that wasn't an option for us, so we went to sleep in a sauna like room. We didn't use the shower (I know, gross!) because there was a dirty towel behind the bathroom door and the tub was disgusting. We complained!
The next day we woke up at 7:30 and were in the van by 8:30 EST. We drove and drove and drove, and for some reason, a lot of hotels had no vacancies. Finally, at 10:00pm MST, we found the hotel we had reserved hours before. This one was decent, the hotel had air conditioning, and we had the chance to shower! We woke up at 6:00 and were on the road by 6:30.
We made it to our home in Utah shortly before 6:00 only to find out we were locked out. We left all the house keys with my sister's husband who happened to be buying us food! Now I will finally have a home cooked meal and get to sleep in my own bed!
Do you ever take road trips? If you do, what was the longest trip you have taken? What was one of your favorite vacations?
Sorry this is so short and not many details, but I have pictures and some great tips and stories coming up!
